NEMBA Explorers Mtn Biking Program
The Mid Coast Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (McNEMBA) will start its summer NEMBA Explorers program soon.
The program will run Mondays starting June 17 with an orientation and will conclude on July 29. All sessions will be at the Camden Snow Bowl and will start at 6 p.m.
The goal of the program, said Morgan Laidlaw of the association, is to develop mountain biking skills and build confidence, but most importantly, instill a lifelong appreciation for mountain biking.
Activities will include obstacle courses, use of the pump track, various skill drills, and riding on the single track.
The group is open to all children from those who are just learning to seasoned high school riders. For the younger riders, parental involvement is essential. "With this involvement comes great camaraderie and fun for everyone," Laidlaw said.
Helmets are required for all participants. "We are hoping to cap off the program with a weekend biking/camping trip to Carrabassett Valley on Aug. 3-4 to ride some of the great trails there available for all levels," he said.
Mountain biking has a strong history in Camden with many superb trails and people who appreciate healthy recreation in the outdoors, Laidlaw said.
MCNEMBA has worked tirelessly to improve the trails in the area and to expand the offering of trails in and around Camden, he said.
